9th & Virginia

Sometimes it’s just about playing fun music. Out Like Pluto (formerly The Cuddle Party), an alt-pop quartet out of Seattle, is clearly out to have a good time with their do-it-yourself debut, 9th & Virginia. This infectious collection of six tracks invites the listener along on a genre-hopping, fist-pumping, and sometimes literal jaunt through the streets, bars, and apartments of urban life in downtown Seattle.

When I first listened to “9th & Virginia”, I was only expecting a band that plays at the level of Hannah Montana. Boy, how wrong was I?!?!?! The Cuddle Party blew me away! I say that they are easily as good as Miley Cyrus, or maybe even as good as Jonas Brothers. With a lot of hard work, one day, god willing, they will soar into the ranks of Ricky Martin, Los del Río and Hanson.

Now, when I come home from a hard day of plucking goose feather, I would pour myself a big tall glass of moonshine, draw a bubble bath and relax to the soothing baritone that is the Cuddle Party. The song “Papercut” makes me think of Allen Ginsberg’s “Howl”.

“I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix; angel-headed hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night.”

That’s exactly how I felt each time I listen to the Cuddle Party.

P.S.: The band is smoking hot! Especially the keytarist!!!

The Cuddle Party know how to make some catchy, fun music! While most of the songs are about breakups, the tempos and hooks keep things light and moving. The main detour from this is the song Dear Amanda Palmer, which I find to be a real standout track. The guitar is gorgeous throughout and very emotive, and the song obviously has lots of personal feeling behind it. A band definitely worth checking out if you enjoy finding nice little gems before everyone else does!

I’m a cuddler. Don’t you want to be one, too?

I’ve listened to the Cuddle Party both live and through their CD “9th & Virginia” – and they always sound awesome. The lead singer has a a great pop/rock voice and they play an eclectic mix of songs about, well, love, break-ups, and all the drama that makes life life.

The band has the fun of Britney with the funkiness of a true Seattle band. They’re the kind of music you love to secretly sing in the shower – an instant wake-me-up in the morning.

    Hot hot hot.
