The 2008 General Assembly session is underway, which means that Charlottesville Daily Progress political reporter Bob Gibson is commuting each day to Richmond. He phones in from the road to join Coy Barefoot on WINA’s Charlottesville–Right Now to talk about what has happened so far.

Bob Gibson of the Charlottesville Daily Progress joins Coy Barefoot on WINA’s Charlottesville–Right Now to discuss how Virginia will be different in the wake of last week’s school shooting in Blacksburg. For starters, Bob says the rivalry between U.Va and Virginia Tech will never be the same. But, he also says the state will look at ways to prevent mentally ill people from having easy access to firearms. Bob also discusses his Sunday column in which he described the emotional toll the shootings have take on the state.

Charlottesville–Right Now: Charlottesville/Albemarle to get New Voting Machines?

Political Reporter Bob Gibson of the Charlottesville Daily Progress joins Coy Barefoot every Monday for a discussion on Virginia politics. Straight from the capitol, Gibson informs us on some new legislation moving through the General Assembly, including a plan to replace the touch-screen voting machines in Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Gibson also speaks on transportation, and limiting the impact of new development in the area.

Later on, Gibson comments on former Virginia Governor James Gilmore’s bid for the Presidency in 2008. He started off the show paying his respects to a former University of Virginia Rector, the late Hovey Dabney.

Bob Gibson on the Senate race, the marriage amendment, and New Orleans

He describes what he saw in New Orleans and Mississippi. He also talks about Senator George Allen’s lead over challenger Jim Webb in a recent poll, as well as the marriage amendment on the ballot this fall.
