However, a Gallup poll has Allen slightly ahead. Is the election a referendum on Allen’s character?

Of course, the Virginia blogosphere is already spinning the results:

The Virginia Progressive says both men sounded canned and lacked passion.

The Richmond War Room says Allen may have been knocked out of this thing

The Virginia Federalist says “Allen looked calm and comfortable” while Webb “did not push the points he could win on.”

Shaun Kenney says the Taiwan Straits question backfired on Webb.

Spark It Up says “it was a very good night for Sen. Allen.”

The VB Dems Blog says Allen appealed to too many fears.

Riley, Not Oreilly of the A-Team says Webb “demonstrated his utter lack of understanding regarding macroeconomics and tax policy.”

Anonymous is a Woman claims Webb won tonight.

Virginia Conserative Analysis says he saw many “lefties” criticizing Webb’s performance.

Two Conservatives describes the tale of the two islands that came up in the debate.

SLANT Blog wonders how many times Allen invoked Hilary Clinton’s name.

Bearing Drift says he was almost won over by Webb, but thinks the former Navy Secretary is too smug.

The Mason Conservative thinks the long campaign is sharpening Allen.

Rich Howell thinks the debate was just lousy.

Hampton Roads Politics provides a summary and concludes it was “not memorable, not thought-provoking, and forgotten by tomorrow.”

Any others? Drop me a line at seantubbs@cvillepodcast.com.

10:44 10/10 Update: The folks at the Richmond War Room wrote in to say “we didn’t say that Allen got knocked out of it. He just had a bad night. And we’ve had second thoughts since sobering up…”

“When the article came out, it basically legitimized bad treatment towards us.” says Brooks. Brooks was a guest on the September 29 edition of WINA’s Charlottesville–Right Now with Coy Barefoot. She described some of the things that happened to her while at the Academy.

Fifth Congressional District: Debate between Al Weed and Virgil Goode

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

On August 9, incumbent Republican Virgil and challenger Al Weed met for the first time before voters in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District. The event was sponsored by the Senior Statesmen of Virginia, and was held at the Senior Center in Charlottesville.
Not strictly a debate, both candidates had fifteen minutes to give an opening statement, and then had five additional minutes to rebut. Then they took questions from the audience. The first four of these dealt with illegal immigration, which prompted boos from the crowd. Questions also abound at health-care, energy policy, and economic development.
