Transportation 2007: VB Dems Podcast with Bacon’s Rebellion James Atticus Bowden

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Yesterday I sat down with James Atticus Bowden to discuss transportation. (What else?) While I’m a transportation wonk-wanna-be, Jim is the real deal, blogging with the experts at Bacon’s Rebellion nonetheless. Despite being the “Republican Conservative”, elected to leadership positions on both his local and district Republican committees and on the RPV central steering committee, Jim is not bashful about how he feels about the current transportation bill (HB3202) that currently sits on Governor Kaine’s desk. He says it both bad policy and bad politics. It’s a great discussion we have, albeit a little long - a little over an hour, and believe it or not we agree on a number of things! Will wonders ever cease!

Charlottesville–Right Now: Del. David Toscano updates us on the General Assembly

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Delegate David Toscano joins Coy Barefoot on the February 1st edition of WINA’s Charlottesville–Right Now to discuss the transportation plan in the General Assembly. The House and Senate are divided over how to pay for new road construction. A majority in the House wants to pay for new projects by raising bonds, while the Senate plan relies on tax increases.

“We’re setting up for a logjam,” says Toscano. He’s concerned that the Senate plan also calls for pulling money out of the general fund to pay for roads. Toscano also gives updates on the minimum wage hike. The Senate unanimously passed Senator Chuck Colgan’s bill to raise the wage to $6.50, but its fate in the House is less than certain.
Coy also asks Toscano to weigh in on problems of legislating during an election year.
