Hotel West Virginia
For their third album, Hotel West Virginia, producer and group founder Allan Sizemore recorded in the living room of the house that he and fellow Rust King Jeanne Hoffman built by hand. The album is a musical testament to living life in the mountains. Steeped in rural tradition, it is music for the common person who wants nothing more than to relax at the end of a hard day of either farming, coal mining or cutting timber, to sit down on the front porch with maybe a beer or a little moonshine and pick a tune or two with some good friends.

I was lucky enough to see these guys when they toured in Massachusetts. They are awesome live and this record will not let you down.

I’ve had this cd for over a year now and find myself CRAVING certain songs when it is absent from my cd player for too long.
Not only is this great “driving” music, but there is such a range of moods from beginning to end that there is literally something for everyone– I even used one of the songs as framework for the choreography of a dance. Each song tells its own story and has its own voice.
“Maggie’s Field” is definitely a favorite on the cd, and one that lingers in my heart and brain time and time again… this is a true taste of the beautiful music of Appalachia.
