On December 1, 2006, Dr. Ervin V. Griffin, Sr. started his tenure as the fourth president of Halifax Community College (HCC). Selected by the HCC Board of Trustees and confirmed by the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges on October 20, Griffin not only brings impeccable credentials, but he also brings a wealth of knowledge and community college experience. I am extremely blessed to have the opportunity to serve as the next President of Halifax Community College. I believe all of us involved with HCC – Trustees, faculty, staff, administration, and community partners – want the same thing. We are all dedicated to improving the lives of our students and our community, said Griffin. Griffin has hit the ground running, as his first day included several interviews with the media, congratulatory phone calls from other presidents within the North Carolina System, flowers from well wishers, and meetings with some staff. He also had the opportunity to converse and mingle with several students. When asked by a reporter what he would like to change, Griffin commented, I have been here for only one day, so I am not prepared to make changes. The College has a great strategic plan in place, and I am very focused on doing what I can to move that plan forward. Of course, some change is likely to occur, but I will spend the next several months becoming acquainted with our students, faculty, staff, and community supporters.
