HMA Submarine COLLINS visited the Port of Melbourne from 14-17 March 2008, coinciding with the Formula 1 ING Australian Grand Prix. As part of this visit, COLLINS hosted nine Australian V8 Supercar drivers on a sea ride on 14 March 2008 as they entered Port Phillip Bay.

Commanding Officer COLLINS (Commander Matthew Buckley, RAN) extended the invitation to the V8 Supercar drivers to showcase the submarine which is based at HMAS STIRLING, Western Australia. The invitation also deepens the friendship between the Royal Australian Navy and the V8 Supercar organisation.

An exciting new format for the V8 Supercar races at the 2008 Formula 1 ING Australian Grand Prix will create the ultimate showdown between Holden and Ford. The V8 Supercars Manufacturers Challenge. All of the drivers participating in the submarine sea ride will compete in the V8 Supercars Manufacturers Challenge from 14-16 March after an exciting drive of HMAS Collins.
