Professionalism and Medical Education’s Hidden Curriculum (February 25, 2009)

Frederic W. Hafferty, Ph.D. (Professor of Behavioral Sciences, University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth, Minnesota) presented a sociological and literature review of professionalism in medicine and medical education. Dr. Hafferty proposed an analytical model of “network maps” that visually display the lines of connection among core competencies and professionalism indicators extant in a four year medical curricula.

(AP) A team of scientists is looking into what could have caused bright lights in the sky that prompted hundreds of calls to the National Weather Service and emergency officials. Emails about the mystery in the sky www.wavy.com Callers from Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina described brilliant, streaking lights followed by an explosion-like sound around 9:45 pm Sunday. Virginia residents from Hampton Roads to Richmond reported seeing “great balls of fire” lighting up the sky in shades of yellow, white orange and blue. Some described the explosion as sounding like thunder. Several calls came to Richmond International Airport, but spokesman Troy Bell said tower workers did not see anything unusual. Through UNITE HEREs Hotel Workers Rising campaign, HEI workers, backed by students from campuses across the country, are seeking respect Its time for our community to find out whats going on in HEI hotels. and better livelihoods for themselves and their families. HEI workers at the Sheraton Crystal City have joined workers at HEIs Le Meridien in San Francisco and HEIs Hilton in Long Beach, CA in their call for a fair process for deciding whether to form a union, without management interference. In each hotel where workers have gone public, HEI has committed a series of suspicious layoffs and disciplines of Union activists.

Bridge Day 2009

Bridge Day 2009 the only day out of the entire year which BASE jumpers are legally allowed to jump from the New River Gorge Bridge. It’s the second tallest bridge in the United States and the longest steel arch bridge in the western hemisphere. Bridge Day attracts many spectators, over the course of the day around 200000 spectators stop by and join in on the excitement as jumpers throw them selves off the 876 feet tall bridge. Around 200-400 Base jumpers turnout for this event and can jump as many times as they can get in from 9:00AM till 3:00PM.
