The sea phase of Exercise Black Carillon 2011-1 (BC11-1) was held in the Western Australia Exercise Area (WAXA). The aim of the exercise was to prove the submarine escape and rescue capability of the RAN, by transferring personnel from a submarine on the seabed to the surface. The RAN will prove this capability in consort with James Fisher Defence and their LR5 submarine rescue vehicle, with support provided by Defence Maritime Services (DMS) in the form of MV Seahorse Standard.
