Wackos from the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, came to West Virginia to spread their virulent anti-gay, anti-Semitic, anti-coal-miner, anti-American, anti-anything-remotely-human message. Here they regurgitate their wretched rhetoric in front of Temple Israel, a Reform Congregation in Charleston, and are met by a throng of angry but peace-loving, mostly non-Jewish, counter-protesters. Students at the College of Charleston recently had the opportunity to enroll in ENGL 462: Poe, Place and History and study with a leading authority on Edgar Allan Poe, English Professor Scott Peeples. In the film, Poe (Cusack) tracks down a serial killer whose murders mimic Poe’s literary works. In addition to teaching, touring, and lecturing, Professor Peeples’ has published two books, Edgar Allan Poe Revisited (1998) and The Afterlife of Edgar Allan Poe (2004), which won the Patrick F. “Nat bad. Nat bad at’all.” – Quote from 2001 Three Rivers Stadium Implosion The old Union Carbide Building 82, which was donated to the University of Charleston, was imploded to free up the site’s acreage. It was a common site seen from I-64 when driving past South Charleston. The skyline will definitely be different, but hopefully it will be a sign of progress. The 6.8-acre site will be sold by the University of Charleston. (Pay no attention to the commentating onlookers. The police used the siren’s on their vehicles to warn everyone of the impending explosion. Also, the cloud was of dust, not smoke.) Charleston Gazette Link: www.wvgazette.com Video Rating: 4 / 5
